      Excerpt pareira treated liver samples showed the ability of the CP to prevent hepatocellular necrosis. Cissampelos pareira is a very variable, lofty, slender, dioecious, perennial, climber commonly distributed throughout topical & sub topical India, ascending up to an altitude of c 2,000m.

Hirsuta (Menispermaceae) roots have been examined in various acute and chronic ulcers in validated experimental models in rats. pareira extract of 25–100 mg/kg administered orally, twice daily for 5 days showed a dose-dependent, ulcer-protective effect.

      Excerpt Further Cissampelos pareira showed the dose dependent significant protective effect against complete Freund's adjuvant induced arthritis. Lysosomal enzymes (acid phosphatase and N-acetyl glucosaminidase) were decreased by 50% (P < 0.01) and 26.26% (P < 0.05) by using Cissampelos pareira, dexamethasone decreased them 56.56% (P < 0.01) and 31.82% (P < 0.01) and the glycoprotein contents (total hexose and sialic acid) were increased by 1.55-folds (P < 0.01) and 1.51-folds (P < 0.05) by using C pareira while dexamethasone increases them by 1.51-folds (P < 0.001) a&1.60-folds (P < 0.01) respectively in stomach homogenate with respect to arthritic group.

      Excerpt The antidiarrhoeal activity of the ethanolic extract of Cissampelos pareira roots was assessed on experimental animals. The hydroethanolic extract (25-100 mg dry extract kg-1 body mass, p.o.) exhibited a dose dependent decrease in the total number of faecal droppings (control 65, reduced to 26-46) & 29.2-60.0% inhibition in castor oïl-induced diarrhoea.
