      Excerpt The antioxidant potential of all the extracts was assessed by measuring total phenolic content, total flavonoid content & free radical scavenging potential was assessed by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrilhydrazyl (DPPH) assay, antibacterial activity was assessed against various pathogenic & nonpathogenic bacteria in vitro by Kirby-Bauer agar well diffusion method & antidiabetic activity was assessed by α-amylase inhibition. Conclusion: The present study suggests that both AG & EF could be used as herbal remedies for the treatment of diabetes mellitus as well as managing oxidative stress & oxidative stress related disorders.

The cytotoxic effect of the essential oil against the cell lines tested were significantly different at p<0.05 levels & the highest CTC50 value was recorded against PC-3 cell lines (42.5 μg/ml), whereas the saponin & the methanolic extract failed to evoke significant antiproliferative response.
