      Excerpt Aziz S, Thesis, Hypolipidaemic & Antioxidant Activities of whole plant extract of Ipomoea aquatica Forsk in experimentally induced hyperlipidaemia in rabbits, Tezpur University-Objectives: The aim of the study has been to investigate the possible hypolipidemic & antioxidant properties of the whole plant extract of Ipomoea aquatica in experimentally induced hyperlipidemia in rabbits. Results: Oral administration of EEWPIA in the test group showed significant reduction in the serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) & significant increase in the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) when compared to the experimental control group.

The alcoholic extract was concentrated in vacuo & the aqueous concentrated successively fractionated with benzene (b.p-60-80°C) (3x250ml), peroxide – free Et2O (3x250ml) & EtOAc (4x250ml). On this basis the identity of the pigments obtained from Et2O & Et2OAc soluble can be confirmed as kaempferol & its 3-glucoside respectively.
