Excerpt Ethanolic extracts (CEE) of leaves from Potomorphe umbellata and Potomorphe peltata, popularly said to have antimalarial capacity, were submitted to the 4-day suppressive test in Plasmodium berghei-infected mice. umbellata administered either orally (250 and 1250 mg/kg) or subcutaneously (100 & 500 mg/kg) evidenced strong antimalarial activity, significantly reducing the levels of parasitemia in a dose-dependent manner.

Excerpt The present study describes the cytotoxic activity of the extracts of PP & the isolated compound, 4-nerolidlilcatercol in five lineages of tumor cells: MCF-7 (human breast cancer), B16 melanoma (murine skin cancer), HCT-8 (human colon cancer), CEM and HL-60 (human leukemia), furnished by the Mercy Children´s Hospital (Kansas City, Missouri State, U.S.A.). Of the extracts prepared from different parts of PP, the methanol, ethanol extracts and chloroform fraction, obtained by liquid-liquid partitioning of the ethanol extract of the root, exhibited the greatest inhibition of the tumor cell lines tested.
