Excerpt Extracts were obtained with three solvents of different polarity (n-hexane, acetone and alcohol) & the in vitro activity was demonstrated against Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteritidis & Shigella flexneri. The activity of nine ethanolic extracts against enterobacteria, particularly Acalypha guatemalensis, Diphysa robinioides, Lippia dulcis, Psidium guajava & Spondias purpurea was confirmed.

Excerpt ippia dulcis hexane & ethanol extracts were tested for its anti-inflammatory activity in several animal models. Hexane extract showed to be inactive, but the ethanol extract at doses of 400 mg/kg produced significant inhibition of carrageenan-induced paw oedema & reduced the weight of cotton pellet-induced granuloma, moreover, the topical application of 0.5 mg/ear of this extract inhibited the edema induced with TPA by 49.13%, an effect which is of less intensity than that produced by indomethacine at the same dose.
