    • According to Feng SY (2022)

Excerpt Our findings revealed that anthocyanin-rich black rice might be a promising functional food for the prevention & treatment of insulin resistance & diabetic hyperglycemia,. Anthocyanin from black rice was reported to have beneficial effects on diabetes, but the molecular mechanisms are still largely unknown.

    • According to RASOOL K (2024)

Excerpt Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease categorized by hyperglycemia, resistance to insulin, & ß-cell dysfunction. Objective: The current study aims to investigate the antidiabetic potential of natural compounds of Oryza sativa L.

    • According to Al-Mssallem MQ (2011)

Excerpt However, no significant difference was observed for GI (P>0.05) despite a lower insulin response noted for HR (P=0.007). These differences may be important in terms of their metabolic impact & outcome on diabetes.

  2. Cancer: adjuvant treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma

    Plant part used: Sound.

    • According to Jang HH (2012)

Excerpt Jang HH et al, Black rice (Oryza sativa L.) extract attenuates hepatic steatosis in C57BL/6 J mice fed a high-fat diet via fatty acid oxidation, Nutr & Metabolism, 2012; 9: 27,.

    • According to Fan MJ (2015)

Excerpt In this research the antimetastatic mechanism of anthocyanins on the invasion/migration of human oral CAL 27 cells was performed using a transwell to quantify the migratory potential of CAL 27 cells & the results show that anthocyanins can inhibit the in vitro migration & invasion of CAL 27 cancer cells. Anthocyanins, a large group of natural polyphenols existing in a variety of daily fruits & vegetables, have been widely recognized as cancer chemopreventive agents.

    • According to Nuriliani A (2023)

Excerpt This study aimed to study the cytotoxic activity & apoptosis induction of the ethanolic extract of black rice (Oryza sativa L. Black rice (Oryza sativa L.) contains various phenolic compounds such as anthocyanins which act as antioxidants.

    • According to Chen PN (2006)

Excerpt Here, we provided molecular evidence associated with the anti-metastatic effects of peonidin 3-glucoside & cyanidin 3-glucoside, major anthocyanins extracted from black rice (Oryza sativa L. Tumor metastasis is the most important cause of cancer death and various treatment strategies have targeted on preventing the occurrence of metastasis.

    • According to RuKmana RM (2016)

Excerpt This extract was applied to Raji (a human Burkitt Lymphoma cancer), HepG2 (a human liver cancer), & Vero (a nonhuman cell line) cells in order to measure the cytotoxic activities by using MTT assay. ‘Cempo Ireng’, ‘Woja Laka’, ‘Toraja’ & ‘IR64’ (white rice) on cancer cells & to determine the compounds groups of those extracts.

  3. Psoriasis

    Plant part used: Seed.

    • According to Rahman H (2015)

Excerpt The ethanolic extract (EEOS-JR) was studied for in-vitro anti-inflammatory activity by human red blood cell (HRBC) membrane stabilization method & In-Vitro anti-arthritic activity by bovine serum protein denaturation method & egg albumin denaturation method. Finally, from results it can be concluded that EEOS JR an indigenous aromatic rice of Assam posses good in-vitro anti-inflammatory & anti-arthritic activities.

Excerpt The present study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of DA-9201, an ethanolic extract of black rice (Oryza sativa), on airway inflammation & remodeling in a murine model of chronic asthma. As compared to the OVA-treated control group, treatment with DA-9201 resulted in significant reductions in the accumulation of eosinophils in peribronchial areas, chronic pulmonary inflammation & progression of airway remodeling.

    • According to Ampawong S (2020)

Excerpt The results showed that the rice extract reduced the severity of psoriasis by decreasing the epidermal thickness, acanthosis, hyperkeratosis, epidermal inflammation & degree of apoptosis induction via caspase-3, increasing the expression levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10 & TGF-β), (3) reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8, IL-20, IL-22 & TNF-α), chemokines (CCL-20) & anti-microbial peptides (psoriasin & β-defensin), (4) enhancing the antioxidative property (Nrf-2), (5) downregulating the levels of psoriasis-associated genes (psoriasin, β-defensin, koebnerisin.15L & koebnerisin 15S) & (6) upregulating the levels of psoriasis-improving genes (caspase-14, involucrin & filaggrin). Rice (Oryza sativa L.: SRNC05053-6-2) consists of anthocyanin, which exhibits strong antioxidative & anti-inflammatory properties.

    • According to Manosroi A (2012)

Excerpt Results: Gel & cream containing the semi-purified rice bran extracts entrapped in niosomes gave no sign of erythema & edema detected within 72 h on the shaved rabbit skin by the closed patch test investigated by mexameter & visual observation, respectively. Discussion & conclusions: The formulations containing niosomes entrapped with the rice bran bioactive compounds gave superior clinical anti-aging activity which can be applied as a novel skin product.
