      Excerpt The excess influx of free fatty acids (FFAs) into nonadipose tissues, such as those of liver & kidney, induces lipotoxicity leading to hepatic steatosis & renal dysfunction. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of methanolic flower extracts of Osmanthus fragrans (OF) & Chrysanthemum morifolium (CM) against FFA-induced lipotoxicity in hepatocytes (human HepG2 cells) & renal glomerular mesangial cells (mouse SV40-Mes13 cells).

      Excerpt Materials & methods: Ethanol (EtOH) extracts of OF leaf & flower, along with specific fractions (n-hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n-butanol, & the aqueous residue) were evaluated for their anti-proliferative effects in human CRC cells using MTT assays, & compared to normal colon cells. Notably, two triterpenoids isolated from the leaf EtOAc fraction, maslinic acid & corosolic acid, displayed potent anti-cancer activity in CRC cells without affecting normal colon cells.

Our findings suggest that OFLEE, with anti-inflammatory effects, prevents osteoporotic bone loss through the suppression of osteoclastic differentiation in BMM & animals with osteoporosis,.

      Excerpt Materials & methods: The OFFE was extracted by 80% (v/v) aqueous ethanol with 0.01% sodium isoascorbate (w/v) from the OF flower & purified on HPD300 resins.
