      Excerpt This study aimed to investigate the antiviral activity of Pterois volitans phospholipase A2 (PV-PLA2) from Indonesia to human immuno-deficiency virus (HIV). The crude venom (CV) extracted from the fin is allowed for purification by 80% ethanol (ET) precipitation & ammonium sulfate fractionation method.

      Excerpt Finally, its antioxidant, antibacterial, & antiretroviral activities were analyzed using the DPPH method, agar diffusion test against Salmonella sp. Conclusion: It can be concluded that PV has the potential to be developed as an antioxidant, anticancer,antibacterial, & antiretroviral agent.

      Excerpt Western Atlantic, Caribbean) Pterois volitans/miles complex & native Caribbean squirrelfish Holocentrus adscensionis against 6 known fish pathogens (Vibrio spp., Photobacterium damselae), & evaluated the antibacterial activity of PV mucus against these pathogens & lionfish & squirrel-fish-associated bacteria. Antibacterial meta bolites were produced by 36.2% (54 of 149) of lionfish-derived bacterial cultures, with similar percentages of producing organisms recovered from the native & invaded ranges.

      Excerpt Phospholipase A2 isolated from Lionfish venom from the waters of the Java Sea with Salting-out method using Ammonium Sulfate on 20% saturation level & the addition of 0.5 mL of Caprylic Acid by heating 60 °C for 20 minutes has the highest enzymes activity & purity. One of the control efforts that possible be done is the utilization of venomous spines of Lionfish that contains Phospholipase A2 known to have antiretroviral activity.
