Excerpt The present study was conducted to evaluate the in vitro inhibitory effect of ethanolic extract of Quisqualis indica leaves on the digestive enzyme a-amylase and to characterize the compounds responsible for it as a means of managing hyperglycaemia. GC-MS analysis of the ethanolic plant leaf extract revealed the presence of phytol in the highest concentration and other compounds like linolenic acid, pentadecanoic acid and 9, 12-linoleic acid in moderate concentrations which were further evaluated for their biological activities using PASS and compared with the biological activity profile of the anti-diabetic drug acarbose.

Petroleum ether extract of the drug were evaluated for anti- diarrhoeal activity, using experimentally induced diarrhoea models: castor-oil induced diarrhoea, and charcoal induced gastrointestinal motility test in albino wistar rats of either sex.
