Phorbol ester extraction was carried out from Jatropha curcas seed cake, a Byproduct from the biodiesel fuel Industry.

Excerpt Phytochemical screening (saponins, tannins, steroids, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols & glycosides) of four medicinal plant seeds (Jatropha curcas, Simmondsia chinensis, Moringa oleifera & Datura metel) extracted by aqueous, ethanol & Folch solvents, were examined for their antimicrobial activity against three types of plant pathogenic fungi namely; Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium oxysporum & Rhizoctonia solani, in addition to four types of bacteria, namely; Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Ralstonia solanacearum & Pseudomonas aeruginosa using disc diffusion paper. Results revealed that different concentrations of aqueous extracts were more effective against bacterial activity compared to fungal activity, except for D.

Excerpt The anticoccidial activity of Phyllanthus amarus (Hurricane weed), Jatropha curcas (purging nut) & Piliostigma thonningii (monkey bread) was tested on seventy-five Eimeria tenella infected Isa-brown male day-old chicks in a completely randomized design as an alternative measure of controlling coccidiosis. The first, second & third groups received, the decoction of Phyllanthus amarus, Jatropha curcas & Piliostigma thonningii, ad libitum respectively for five days post-inoculation as drinking beverage.
