      Excerpt Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae & Citrobacter amalonaticus by agar-disc diffusion method. Ethanolic & aqueous extracts of bark & leaves of Kigelia africana showed remarkable activity against various bacterial strains as compared to n-hexane.

      Excerpt Conclusion: This study revealed the potential of ethanol extracts of K africana stem bark, fruit a leaf to reverse leukaemic effects in benzène-induced leukemia bearing Wistar rats and this suggest that the extracts might be promising natural, non-Toxic and anticancer agents. Methodology: Rats were administered 0.2 mL of benzène solution intravenously through the tail 48-hourly for 4 weeks, tested periodically & observed till leukaemia developed prior to treatment with respective extract of the Kigelia africana stem bark, fruit and leaf in appropriate rat groups after leukaemia was confirmed with haematological protocols.

      Excerpt Crude dichloromethane extracts of Kigelia pinnata stem bark & fruit showed cytotoxic activity in vitro against cultured melanoma and other cancer cell lines using the Sulphorhodamine B assay, which was used for bioassay-guided fractionation. Norviburtinal was found to be the most active compound but had little selectivity for melanoma cell lines whilst isopinnatal also showed some cytotoxic: activity.

      Excerpt Kigelia africana (Bignoniaceae) is enriched with bioactive constituents and has thus found various uses in African folklore. Results of antiproliferative assay showed that methotrexate was significantly (p ˂ 0.05) more effective than the stem bark (from 2-64 mg/mL) with inhibitions ranging from 72.0 ± 1.4% - 90.0 ± 2.4% & root extracts (from 4 – 64 mg/mL) that had inhibitions ranging from 50.3 ± 1.5% - 97.7 ± 0.4% but comparable with leaf extract (from 16 mg/mL - 64 mg/mL) with inhibitions ranging from 68.4 ± 0.8% - 99.0 ± 0.1%.
