Excerpt The aim of the present study was to evaluate the hypolipidemic & antiatherogenic effect of Persea americana (Avocado) fruit extract on the level of tissue and blood lipids & adiponectin in the adipocytes of rats subjected to experimental hyperlipidemia and atherogenesis. americana was found to reduce the risk of hyperlipidemia probably by elevating the level of adiponectin & also by reducing the level of LDL-C.

Excerpt The effect of ethanolic extracts of Persea americana seed & Zea mays silk on blood glucose levels, body & organ weights of alloxan- induced hyperglycemic Wistar rats was investigated using standard analytical techniques. At the end of the experiment, the groups administered 400 mg/kg body weight Zea mays silk single extract & 400 mg/kg body weight combined extract of P americana seed Z mays silk showed significant (P< 0.05) decrease in fasting blood glucose when compared with the diabetic control.
