Excerpt The ethanolic root extract of Plumbago zeylanica was investigated for induction of hyperglycaemia in the rat. The increased activity of AST may also enhance the synthesis of oxaloacetate & consequently citrate, both of which inhibit phosphofructokinase activity, thus decreasing glycolytic flux, glucose uptake & utilization by the glycolytic pathway & possibly contributing to the observed hyperglycemia in rats treated with PZ.

Excerpt The dichlorométhane extract of Guardiola platyphylla & ethanol extracts of Plumbago scandens, Acacia angustissima & Salvia sonomensis demonstrated the best spectrum of activity by completely inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae & Candida albicans. subtilis proved to be very susceptible with 188 species either completely inhibiting or slowing the growth of this gram-positive organism.
