This may be a result of impaired delivery to & utilization of, glucose by the peripheral tissue, thus substantiating the reported hyperglycaemia in the extract‐treated rats.

      Extrait The ethanolic root extract of Plumbago zeylanica was investigated for induction of hyperglycaemia in the rat. The increased activity of AST may also enhance the synthesis of oxaloacetate & consequently citrate, both of which inhibit phosphofructokinase activity, thus decreasing glycolytic flux, glucose uptake & utilization by the glycolytic pathway & possibly contributing to the observed hyperglycemia in rats treated with PZ.

      Extrait Results :The results showed the elevated concentration of biochemical markers and histopathological degenerative changes in animals treated with paracetamol indicating severe hepatic damage; whereas, the treatment with decoction of both the species of Citraka showed significant reduction in the serum markers & regenerative changes in the histopathological specimens pointing towards its effectiveness as a hepatoprotective drug.       Extrait In addition, i.p administration of PL (2 mg/kg body weight, 5 days a week) in SCID mice beginning 3 days after ectopic implantation of PANC1 cells resulted in a significant (P<0.01) inhibition of both tumor weight and volume. We present here that plumbagin (PL), a quinoid constituent isolated from the roots of the medicinal plant Plumbago zeylanica, inhibits the growth of PC cells both in vitro & in vivo model systems.

      Extrait The dichlorométhane extract of Guardiola platyphylla & ethanol extracts of Plumbago scandens, Acacia angustissima & Salvia sonomensis demonstrated the best spectrum of activity by completely inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae & Candida albicans. subtilis proved to be very susceptible with 188 species either completely inhibiting or slowing the growth of this gram-positive organism.

Ethanolic extract of Plumbago zeylanica root was investigated for its antimicrobial activities against 11 human pathogenic bacteria & 6 phytopathogenic fungi using disc diffusion method & poisoned food technique respectively.

      Extrait For the Bioefficacy studies six different extracts of Plumbago species with various concentrations viz., 20, 40, 60, 80& 100μg/ml against gram positive & gram-negative bacterial pathogens viz., Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC 737), Streptococcus pyogenes (MTCC 1928), Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 441), Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC 109), Morganella morganii (MTCC 662) & Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 1688) using well diffusion method. The ethanolic extract of all the Plumbago species revealed superior bactericidal activity compared to other tested extracts.
