      Excerpt We evaluated the antihyperglycaemic effect of Scoparic acid D (SAD), a diterpenoid isolated from the ethanol extract of Scoparia dulcis in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic male Wistar rats. At the end of the experimental period, the SAD-treated STZ diabetic rats showed decreased levels of glucose as compared with diabetic control rats.

      Excerpt Hence, the present study was designed to evaluate antidiabetic & antioxidant principle of the ethanolic extract of S dulcis (EESD) for its antidiabetic & antioxidant potential against alloxan-induced diabetic mice.       Excerpt Administration of an aqueous extract of SD by intragastric intubation (po) at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight significantly decreased the blood glucose & lipid peroxidative marker thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) with significant increase in the activities of plasma insulin, pancreatic superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), & reduced glutathione (GSH) in streptozotocin diabetic rats at the end of 15 days treatment. Streptozotocin at a dose of 10 mug/mL evoked 6-fold stimulation of insulin secretion from isolated islets indicating its insulin secretagogue activity.

      Excerpt Scopadulcic acid B (SDB), a tetracyclic diterpenoid isolated from a medicinal plant, Scoparia dulcis L., inhibited the effects of tumor promoter 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) in vitro & in vivo; SDB inhibited TPA-enhanced phospholipid synthesis in cultured cells, & also suppressed the promoting effect of TPA on skin tumor formation in mice initiated with 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene. The potency of SDB proved to be stronger than that of other natural antitumor-promoting terpenoids, such as glycyrrhetinic acid.

      Excerpt Cardiospermum halicacabum, Gomphrena celosioides & Scoparia dulcis, very well-known medicinal herbs in Asian countries, were selected for the investigation of inhibitory effects on cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) cells. dulcis extract showed most inhibitory effects on cell growth of CCA cell lines KKU-100 1 KKU-213, at percentages of 56.06 & 74.76, respectively, compared to the untreated group after treatment with 250 μg/mL of extracts for 72 hrs.
