      Excerpt Alloxan (dissolved in 0.1 M citrate buffer (pH = 4.5); intraperitoneally injected @ 130 mg/kg body weight) induced type I diabetic rats were treated with individual & combined doses of ethanol extracts of CQ & TFG for consecutive 30 days @ 250 & 500 mg per kg body weight, orally. CQ & TFG combination therapy showed a marked improvement in bone microarchitecture & can be given together as a potential alternative medicine to insulin for prevention of type I diabetes induced osteopathy.

      Excerpt In present study, we investigated hypoglycemic & antihyperglycemic potential of five extracts (water, ethanol, methanol, hexane, & chloroform) of four plants (i.e., seeds of Eugenia jambolana, fruits of Momordica charantia, leaves of Gymnema sylvestre, & seeds of Trigonella foenum graecum) alone and/or in combination with glimepiride in rats. The combination of most active extracts (200 mg/kg BW) & lower dose of glimepiride (5 mg/kg BW) showed safer & potent hypoglycemic as well as antihyperglycemic activities without creating severe hypoglycemia in normal rats, while higher doses (200 mg/kg bw of most active extracts, & 10 & 20 mg/kg bw of glimepiride) were generated lethal hypoglycemia in normal rats.
