      Excerpt Urena lobata is a plant which has been used to cure T2DM empirically but the inhibitory activity on DPP-IV has not been tested. Both of water & ethanolic extract from UL decrease DPP-IV level & blood glucose AUC compared to control group (p<0.05) whereas insulin level & GLP-1 are increased (p<0.05).

      Excerpt In oral glucose tolerance tests with methanolic extract of Urena lobata leaves (MEUL), the extract significantly & dose-dependently reduced blood glucose concentrations in glucose-loaded mice. In comparison, a standard antihyperglycemic drug, glibenclamide, when administered at a dose of 10 mg per kg, reduced blood glucose level by 61.2%.

      Excerpt Thirty-three extracts were obtained in 3 different solvents (Water, Ethanol, DCM) from these ten plants selected after an ethnobotanic survey in the region of the Pool (Congo Brazzaville): Leonotis nepetaefolia (Lamiaceae), Manotes pruinosa (Connaraceae), Spilanthes uliginosa (Asteraceae), Hymenocardia ulmoides (Euphorbiaceae), Celosia trigyna (Amaranthaceae), Cogniauxia podolaena (Cucurbitaceae), Brillantaisia patula (Acanthaceae), Urena lobata (Malvaceae), Mitracarpus scaber (Rubiaceae), Triumfetta rhomboidea (Tiliaceae). The cytotoxicity of all the extracts was tested on KB (Human epidermoid Carcinoma) & Vero (African green monkey kidney) cell lines with Taxotere as positive control.

      Excerpt lobata produced significant (p<0.05) pain relieving activity (number of writhing 32) at 500 mg/kg body weight as compared to standard diclofenac-Na. From this view point two Bangladeshi plants, Uraria lagopodies DC & Urena lobata have been evaluated for their possible pharmacological activities.

In analgesic activity tests with acetic acid induced pain model mice, the extract at the afore-mentioned four doses, significantly and dose-dependently reduced acetic acid induced abdominal constrictions in mice by 18.5, 22.2, 40.7, & 63.0% versus the 48.1 & 63.0% reductions obtained with a standard analgesic drug, aspirin, administered respectively, at doses of 200 & 400 mg per kg.
