Excerpt n this study we tested the cytotoxic effect of Oman’s Cymbopogon schoenanthus on breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231), cervical cancer cells (HEp-2) & Vero cells (normal) and we analyzed their chemical profile by Gas Chromatography Coupled Mass Spectrometry (GCMS). Conclusion: It is clearly evidenced from the results that CS derives active principles specifically targeting tumor cells with very low toxicity on normal cells.

Excerpt nervatus growing in Northern Sudan were examined for their chemical composition, antiproliferative activity against human breast carcinoma & human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines, antioxidant activity (phosphomolybdenum, antiradical, reducing power, & ferrous chelating), & enzyme inhibition activity against acetylcholinesterase butyryl-cholinesterase, tyrosinase, α-glucosidase, and α-amylase. In conclusion, oils from these two Cymbopogon species could be new natural agents with functional properties for food, cosmetics, & pharmaceutical industries.

Excerpt The aim of this research was to evaluate the essential oils of two medicinal plants from Djibouti: Cymbopogon schoenanthus & Nepeta azurea in cytotoxic activity against thirteen (13) cancer cell lines (A2780, A549, HCT116, HEK-293, JIMT-T1, K562, MIA-Paca2, MRC5, NCI-N87, PC3, RT4, U2OS & U87-MG) & antibacterial activity against seven (7) Gram (−) strains (Acinetobacter baumannii, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica sv. The two essential oils showed inhibitory cytotoxicity activities of all the cancer cells tested; on the other hand, the antibacterial activities are only well-noticed for the CSEO oil at a concentration of 5% against K Pneumoniae, P aeruginosa, Corynebacterium sp., E faecalis & S aureus.
