Excerpt To study the effect of oral administration of Piper betle leaf powder suspension on lipid peroxidation & antioxidants in streptozotocin (STZ) diabetic rats. betle (75 & 150 mg/kg body weight) for 30 days resulted in a significant reduction in plasma thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), hydroperoxides, alpha-tocopherol & significant improvement in glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase & glutathione peroxidase in the liver & kidney of STZ diabetic rats when compared with untreated diabetic rats.
