     Extrait To study the effect of oral administration of Piper betle leaf powder suspension on lipid peroxidation & antioxidants in streptozotocin (STZ) diabetic rats. betle (75 & 150 mg/kg body weight) for 30 days resulted in a significant reduction in plasma thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), hydroperoxides, alpha-tocopherol & significant improvement in glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase & glutathione peroxidase in the liver & kidney of STZ diabetic rats when compared with untreated diabetic rats.

     Extrait After in vivo screening of crude extracts it was concluded that ethyl acetate extract contains some antitumor agents when applied against mice bearing melanoma & depicted significant reduction in tumor size.      Extrait Results: Lung cancer cell line (A549) was tested against four PB leaf extracts ie; aqueous, methanolic, ethyl acetate & petroleum ether for their anti proliferative activity. Conclusions: From the present study it was concluded that the leaf extracts of PB have anti proliferative & chemo preventive potential & can be use for the treatment of various ailments including human lung cancer.

     Extrait Explored for their unique medicinal properties, the leaves of Piper betel, an evergreen perennial vine, are a reservoir of phenolics with antimutagenic, antitumor & antioxidant activities. Further, the HC containing F2 subfraction was found to be ~8-fold more potent than the F2 subfraction that contained CHV, in human prostate cancer PC-3 cells as evaluated by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay.
