     Extrait This paper evaluates the inhibitory capacity of ethanolic extracts of leaves & little roots & also fractions chromatographically fractions obtained from Renealmia alpinia (Rottb) Mass, cultured in vitro, on the indirect hemolytic activity, proteolytic activity & coagulant activity induced by the Bothrops asper venom. Proteolytic activity from RA extracts on Bothrops asper venom is ruled out since there are not changes in the electrophoretic pattern of the venom.

     Extrait Renealmia alpinia has been traditionally used to treat snakebites by indigenous Embera-Katíos tribes belonging to the regions of Antioquia & Chocó, Colombia, & it has been shown to inhibit the enzymatic & biological activities of Bothrops venoms & their purified phospholipase A2 (PLA2) toxins. The protective properties of the extract & of pinostrobin against the indirect hemolytic, coagulant & proteolytic effects of Bothrops asper venom were evaluated in vitro, & the anti-hemorrhagic & anti-inflammatory activity were evaluated in vivo.

     Extrait No alteration was observed in the electrophoretic pattern of venom proteinases after incubation with Renealmia alpinia extracts, thus excluding proteolytic degradation or protein denaturation/precipitation as a mechanism of inhibition.
