     Extrait The ethanolic extract of seeds of Cuminum cyminum (C.c) was found to improve glucose tolerance to the tune of around 18.3% (P < 0.01) in normal rats and shows around 17.7% (P < 0.01) and 17.1% fall on blood glucose levels at 0–300 and 0–1440 min, respectively, on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats at an oral dose of 250 mg/Kg body weight. The extract has also been found to improve around 26.7% (P < 0.01) glucose intolerance on 14th day post treatment in high fructose fed streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

     Extrait This study was carried out on albino rats to evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of aqueous-ethanolic extract of Cuminum cyminum seeds. Results: There was a significant increase in serum Glutamic Pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) & serum total Bilirubin (TB) level in intoxicated controls, which were restored towards normal in C cyminum (100, 200 & 300 mg/Kg, P.O.) treated animals.

     Extrait In this study, we characterized the antioxidant activity of three commercially available cumin varieties, viz., cumin (Cuminum cyminum), black cumin (Nigella sativa) & bitter cumin (C. IC50 values of the methanolic extract of bitter cumin were found to be 0.32, 0.1 & 0.07 mg dry weight of cumin seeds on the lipoxygenase dependent lipid peroxidation system, the DPPH radical scavenging system & the rat liver microsomal lipid peroxidation system, respectively.
