      Extrait Thus, we investigated the effect of Datura stramonium ethanolic leaf extract (DSELE) supplementation in MXT-induced biochemical alterations in rats. Key findings MTX caused a significant (P<0.05) increase in serum activities of liver enzymes (AST, ALT & ALP) & levels of total cholesterol & low-density lipoprotein while the levels of total protein & albumin decreased significantly relative to the normal control.

Leukemia induced in rats was affirmed by elevated serum levels of WBCs (7.78 ± 0.012 (× 103) /μl), bilirubin (7.56 ± 0.97 mg/dl), Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARs) (133.75 ± 2.61 nM/min/mg protein), decreased RBCs (4.33 ± 0.065 (× 106)/μl), platelets (344 ± 3.19 (× 103)/μl), total proteins (2.14 ± 0.11 g/dl), Glutathione S-transferases (GST) (81.01 ± 0.44 nM/min/ml), endogenous antioxidant enzymes levels & abnormal liver and kidney functionality in disease control rats.

      Extrait The results of that study showed that three Datura species investigated have immunostimulant potential which could them to be useful in the treatment of breast & cervical cancers.       Extrait Three experiments were performed, Exp-1 & Exp-2 were designed to study the antidiarrhoeal effect & the effect on enteropooling induced by castor oil for two treated groups (T1&T2) orally dosed with Datura stramonium leaves hydroethanolic extract at 50 &100mg/Kg BW. Exp-1 results showed that both DS extract doses caused a dose dependent antidiarrhoeal effect manifested by significant decrease in charcoal intestinal travelling distance & percent (ITP) which is similar to atropine sulphate (0.1 mg/kgBW IP) for the high DS extract dose.

      Extrait The previous pharmacological studies of Datura fastuosa showed that it possessed antimicrobial insecticidal, antidiabetic, cytotoxic, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, neurological, wound healing, reproductive & antispasmodic, while Datura stramonium exerted Antiepileptic, Anti-asthmatic, analgesic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, insecticidal, repellent & organophosphate protective effects. The preliminary phytochemical investigation was performed on methanolic & hydroalcoholic extract of Datura fastuosa (syn: Datura metel) revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, cardiac glycosides, flavonoids, carbohydrates, amino acids & phenolic compounds, while, phytochemical analysis of Datura stramonium showed that it contained alkaloids, saponins, tannins, steroids, flavonoids, phenols & glycosides.

      Extrait Present studies clearly showed strong antifungal activity of a concoction brewed from Datura stramonium, Calotropis gigantea, Azadirachta indica (neem) & cow manure (T1) followed by methanol-water (70/30 v/v) extracts of D stramonium, C gigantea & A indica (T2) against Fusarium mangiferae. This could be due to observed higher levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, iron and manganese in T1, followed by T2 when compared with T3(control).
