      Extrait Guazuma ulmifolia leaf is well known as an Indonesian traditional medicine to have effects as antidiabetic by the presence of its secondary metabolites such as alkaloid, tannin, saponin, flavonoid, & terpenoid, which are very important in health recovery. Conclusion: Our study suggests that EEJB is able to reduce TGF-β1, fibronectin, & ROS levels in glucose-induced mesangial cells, which correlate to diabetic glomerulosclerosis condition & increase the mesangial cell proliferation & viability.

      Extrait The flowers and leaves of Guazuma ulmifolia, though less studied, are also used as a remedy for different conditions, such as kidney and gastrointestinal diseases, fever and diabetes. The aim of this study was to assess the gastroprotective effects of an aqueous suspension of the ethanolic extract from leaves and flowers of Guazuma ulmifolia in a model of acute gastric ulcer induced by diclofenac as ulcerogenic agent, using the proton pump inhibitor omeprazole as a protection reference.

      Extrait In this study, we evaluated (I) the chemical composition & antioxidant capacity of aqueous extracts from Guazuma ulmifolia stem bark (GUEsb) & leaves (GUEl) in 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging, 2,2-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride- (AAPH-) or DOX-induced lipid peroxidation inhibition in human blood cells, & intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) quantification using the fluorescent probe dichloro-dihydro-fluorescein diacetate (DCFH-DA) in K562 erythroleukemia cells incubated with GUEsb & stimulated with hydrogen peroxide; (II) the viability of K562 cells & human leukocytes treated with GUEsb in the absence or presence of DOX using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay; (III) the acute toxicity of GUEsb; and (IV) the cardioprotective effect of GUEsb in C57Bl/6 mice treated with DOX. Taken together, the results show that GUEsb & GUEl are natural alternatives to treat diseases associated with oxidative stress & that, in particular, GUEsb may play an adjuvant role in DOX chemotherapy.
