      Extrait Recent studies have investigated the uses of Hibiscus sabdariffa to treat common chronic diseases.Its antihypertensive potential originates from the vasodilator activity, diuretic efficacy, functionality as an ACE inhibitor, adipocyte differentiation inhibitor, heart rate reduction ability, & anti-inflammatory mechanistics.The antihyperlipidemic effect is dose-dependent & stems from the antioxidative effect & the activation of AMPK through phosphorylation & also the inhibition of regulatory adipogenic transcription factors PPAR-γ, C/EBP-α & SREBP-1c which all together results in lipid-lowering effect.As an antihyperglycemic, HS serves as anti-insulin resistance by inhibition of the phosphorylation of IRS-1 beside the similar effect to gliptins.HS was proven to protect against neuroinflammation in microglial cell culture exposed to LPS by decreasing IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α expression, & the protective effect against glucotoxicity, improve memory function by inhibiting the formation of hyperphosphorylated tau proteins in the mouse brain. The databases PubMed, MEDLINE, Clinical Key, & CINAHL were searched for studies related to Hibiscus sabdariffa's compounds, antioxidative & anti-inflammatory features, mechanism of action on common chronic diseases including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes, & Alzheimer's disease.

      Extrait This study evaluated the antidiabetic potentials of flavonoid-rich aqueous fraction of methanolic extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx (HSCE) on the pancreatic β-cells of experimental type I diabetic model rats. The study concluded that possible antidiabetic mechanism of Hibiscus sabdariffa in STZ diabetes is through induction of β-cell regeneration & its strong antioxidant potential.

      Extrait Then the test of Antidiabetic activity was conducted consisting of 11 treatment groups, ie groups of CMC suspension 0.5% as a negative control; Glibenclamide 0.65 mg/kg as a positive control; n-hexane extracts of roselle calyces dose of 200 mg / kg, 400 mg / kg and 600 mg / kg; ethyl acetate extracts of roselle calyces dose of 200 mg / kg, 400 mg / kg and 600 mg / kg & ethanol extracts of roselle calyces dose of 200 mg / kg, 400 mg / kg & 600 mg / kg, which is respectively administered orally every day. The results of the statistical test (α = 0.05) showed that the extracts of n-hexane & ethyl acetate perform a real mean of difference on Glibenclamide, whereas the ethanol extract did not perform significant differences with Glibenclamide in lowering blood glucose levels on mice, which means that the ethanol extract can lower blood glucose levels of diabetic mice.
