Extrait Hence in the present study we tested hepatoprotective & antioxidant activity of fruit extract of LS in anti-tubercular drug induced hepatotoxicity., Methods: We administered antitubercular drugs alone & in combination with fruit extract of LS (EELS 100mg/kg & EELS 200mg/kg) in healthy albino rats by oral route for 15 days. Anti TB drug induced hepatotoxicity has higher incidence in Indian population [11.5%] than western population [4.5%].

Extrait Particular attention is given to its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antihyperlipidemic, diuretic, hepatoprotective, anthelmintic, & antibacterial effects so that its potential uses in pharmaceutics can be better evaluated. Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) standley (LS) (Family: Cucurbitaceae) is an annual herbaceous climbing plant with a long history of traditional medicinal uses in many countries, especially in tropical & subtropical regions.

Extrait Fruit juice of Lagenaria siceraria (LS) belonging to Cucurbitaceae family, has been used traditionally to treat jaundice & to cure certain liver disorders. PE & ETH, were then evaluated for their hepatoprotective and antioxidant activities against paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity and different in vitro assays respectively.

Extrait To determine the hepatoprotective effect of Lagenaria Siceraria in carbamazepine induced hepatotoxicity in rabbits, STUDY DESIGN: A Randomized controlled trial (experimental animal study). CONCLUSION: Hepatoprotective potential of L.S suggested its use to prevent elevation of hepatic enzymes due to long term administration of carbamazepine.

Extrait The past three decades witnessed increasing investigation of the polysaccharides isolated from different parts of the plant, & the polysaccharides were reported to show immune-enhancing, anti-tumor, antihyperlipidemic, cardioprotective, analgesic, anti-inflammatory anti-diabetic, antioxidant & hepatoprotective effects. Lagenaria siceraria (family cucurbitaceae, herbaceous climbing plant) commonly known as bottle gourd, is a medicinal plant, various parts of which have been recognized for their pharmacological potential.

Extrait Results: Groups that received EELS [100 mg/kg & 200 mg/kg], in combination with anti-tubercular drugs, showed significant reduction [p value <0.001] in biochemical parameters for hepatotoxicity [SGOT, SGPT, ALP, Total bilirubin, Total protein] in comparison with group that received anti tubercular drugs alone. Lagenaria siceraria [Bottle Gourd] is reported to have antioxidant & hepatoprotective activity.
