Extrait The antidiabetic potentials of methanol extract (ME) of aerial parts of Phyllanthus niruri L (Euphorbiaceae) was evaluated in normal and alloxan diabetic rats. Sub-chronic toxicity study showed that ME-treated rats had significant (P<0.05) reductions in haemoglobin (Hb) levels, red blood cell (RBC) & white blood cell (WBC) counts followed by a gradual rise which did not, however, attain basal levels; however, there was a progressive rise in the WBC of ME-treated diabetic rats.

Extrait the present investigation shows the anti- hyperglycemic activity of methanol extract of Phyllanthus niruri (MEPN) in Streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic male Wistar rats. The de- creased levels of Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) & increased levels of reduced glutathione (GSH), and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) & Catalase (CAT) resulted in reducing the free radical formation in various tissues such as liver, kidney, hear& brain of the diabetic rats.
