Extrait To investigate the cytotoxic effect of Phyllanthus urinaria extract on human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells & the effect on oxidative phosphorylation by isolated rat liver mitochondria. These results provide preliminary experimental evidence supporting the use of PU against hepatocellular carcinoma & open the possibility of considering this plant an adjunctive medicine for the treatment of this deadly disease.

Extrait These findings demonstrate that Phyllanthus extracts induce TNF-α production from the hepatocellular carcinoma cells while inhibiting production of potent anti-apoptotic genes IL-8 & COX-2,. debilis in regulating cell proliferation & gene expression activities of HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Extrait In this study we investigated whether mice, administered intraperitoneally with a lethal dose of acetaminophen, when followed by oral administration of Phyllanthus urinaria extract, may be prevented from death. We conclude that PU extract is effective in attenuating the acetaminophen induced hepatotoxicity, & inhibition of cytochrome P450 CYP2E1 enzyme may be an important factor for its therapeutic mechanism.

Extrait The results suggested that the potential hepatoprotective effects of PUL in attenuating CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity could be partially attributed to regulating L-carnitine, taurocholic acid, & amino acids metabolism, which may become promising targets for treatment of liver toxicity. Seventeen biomarkers related to the hepatoprotective effects of PUL against CCl4-induced liver injury were screened out using nonparametric test & Pearson's correlation analysis (OPLS-DA).

Extrait Hypoglycemic effects of the extracts of two Siamese plants, Momordica charantia (M.c.) & Phyllanthus urinaria (P.u.), were examined in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. These plants generally contain moderately non-polar hypoglycemic compound(s) soluble in n-butanol; & specifically, with regards to the hypoglycemic mechanism, the M.c.
