      Extrait These compounds, including hydrogenation (pinane) & epoxydation (α-pinene oxide) derivatives from α-pinene, were tested in vitro against murine melanoma cell line (B16F10-Nex2) & human melanoma (A2058), breast adenocarcinoma (MCF7), leukemia (human leukemia (HL-60) & cervical carcinoma (HeLa) cell lines. The crude essential oil showed cytotoxic effects in several cell lines, mainly on leukemia & human cervical carcinoma.

      Extrait This study evaluated the susceptibility of oral pathogenic microorganisms Candida albicans, Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, & Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans to Brazilian medicinal plant extracts of Schinus terebenthifolius, Croton campestris, Lafoensia pacari (pacari), Centaurium erythraea, Stryphnodendron adstringens (barbatimão), & Anacardium humile, as compared to standardized antimicrobial agents (nystatin, chloramphenicol & tetracycline hydrochloride). This study suggests that extracts from the plants tested could be an alternative therapeutic option for infectious conditions of the oral cavity, such as denture stomatitis, dental caries, & periodontitis.
