     Extrait Vanillin is a natural compound, a primary component of the extract of the vanilla bean which possesses varieties of pharmacological features including anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial & anti-tumor. We explored the utility of vanillin as anti-cancer agent and found that it inhibits the proliferation of human hepatocyte carcinoma (HepG2) & neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cells in a dose-dependent manner.

     Extrait A natural product library was screened, & it was found that vanillin, also known as 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde, a plant secondary metabolite found in several essential plant oils, mainly Vanilla planifolia, Vanilla tahitensis, & Vanilla pompon, may be a promising anticancer compound targeted to NNMT. Considering that vanillin is an important flavor & aromatic component used in foods worldwide, vanillin is deemed to be a promising anticancer candidate by inhibiting NNMT & may attenuate NNMT-induced resistance to 5-Fu in human CRC therapy with few side effects.

     Extrait Results: The ethanolic extracts of VP on the agar plates showed considerable anti-microbial activity in both the test methods against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, & Enterococcus. The powdered leaves of Vanilla planifolia (100 gm) were extracted by the cold percolation method with 300 ml ethanol at room temperature for 72 hours.
