When these hepatocyte cultures were exposed to 0.75 or 1mM of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP) for 1h, some protection against lipid peroxidation & GSH depletion was conferred by sage tea drinking.

Extrait The therapeutically active principle is a Salvia Officinalis leaf fluid extract (1:1, extraction solvent ethanol 70% V/V). A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial with 67 hyperlipidemic (hypercholesterolemic and/or hyper-triglyceridemic) patients, the effects of taking SO leaf extract (one 500 mg capsule every 8 hours for 2 months, capsules prepared as in Kianbakht & Dabaghian (2013)) on fasting blood levels of lipids, creatinine & liver enzymes were evaluated in 34 patients & compared with the placebo group (n=33).

Extrait The study was undertaken to investigate the effect of aqueous & ethanolic extracts of Sage (Salvia officinalis L) leaves at concentration (100) mg/kg in dosage on albino rats for 14 days, on blood glucose, serum cholesterol & triglycerides (TG) level in induced-diabetic rats by alloxan (150) mg/kg compared with the reference drug Glibenclamide, Also, an evaluation of the active commercially available Sage Oil was analyzed by TLC. Results showed significant reduction (P< 0.05) of fasting blood glucose level in alloxan-induced diabetic rats’ treatment with plant extracts & Glibenclamide drug as compared with infected control group.

Extrait To determine the hypoglycaemic effect of SO leaves, we investigated the effects of essential oil & methanolic effect of the plant on healthy & streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The results showed that the EO of sage did not change serum glucose, while the plant extract significantly decreased serum glucose in diabetic rats in 3h without effect on insulin releasing from the pancreas but not in healthy rats.
